Combinations of styles and colours
There are many factors to take into consideration in order to have a beautiful and harmonious home as a result. Consistency of style and colour matching above all. If neutral colours, such as dove grey, are the most popular, those who wish to follow the new trends – for example by focusing on ottanium or green – or make their home personal and special with particularly decorative solutions or with chromatic contrasts of effect, must know how to combine colours and in what quantity to use them in a room.
A first rule of practice, beyond the technicalities, is to make tests with samples, usually on small backgrounds, and to consider how the chosen shade also reacts to the lighting conditions in the room.
For a good overall result, it is customary to indicate that in a room the dominant colour must be 60% present, 30% is entrusted to the second colour and 10% can be entrusted to textiles or accessories. But be careful, for example, to choose a challenging colour as the predominant one, such as a forest green: beautiful, but to be dosed carefully on walls or ceilings. And again: a dark colour for floors narrows the perception of space, while a light one tends to illuminate, to react with light in a more dilating way.
On the other hand, for a very small space, opting for the box effect (dark walls and ceiling) makes one lose the perception of the boundary and thus optically – instead of causing an enclosing effect – creates a wider view.
